Winner revealed – The Interior Space

  •   29 August 2023

The winner of The Interior Space category at the 2023 INDE.Awards has been named and congratulations go to Luke Moloney Architecture for Highlands House. As a new category to the INDEs this year, The Interior Space recognises expert interior residential design and Highlands House is a worthy recipient of the top accolade with a project that is thoughtfully designed, refined and sophisticated.

Partner of The Interior Space category is Technogym and its product offering ensures that every residence is complete with personal wellbeing at the fore. As Highland House has been masterfully planned with imaginative form and ultimate function and amenity, Technogym also understands that keeping healthy is the way forward for us all and it designs and manufactures products that sustain and support us in our quest.

The 2023 INDE.Awards jury commented that, ”Highlands House is an expertly conceived and designed home that has a singular presence in its surrounds. The three distinct pavilions offer generous spaces in which to live and sustainability has been integrated to allow for life-off grid. This is a home that has a majesty that simply sets it apart.”

Highlands House is positioned on a hilltop and features barn-like structures that are connected by a sculptural art gallery. It sits within the landscape perfectly at home but also makes its presence felt through the monolithic pavilions.

Each pavilion has its own identity, living space, the owner’s bedroom suite and garage plus guest bedroom and amenities. Pre-cast concrete panels have been utilised and the ceiling heights vary throughout the open plan interior.

Art is integral to the design and the gallery that links the pavilions was inspired by Eduardo Chillida. This gallery helps guide visitors through the home and defines the entrance courtyard creating a spatial narrative.

Sustainability is key to the design and the home embraces off-grid functionality. Other inclusions are solar and shading, rainwater harvesting and thermal mass for climate control and ember protection against bushfires.

Congratulations to Luke Moloney Architecture. This is a home that provides a haven for the occupants and exemplifies outstanding interior design.
