Born and raised in Bruges, Wendy comes from a family of craftspeople. After earning a master’s in architecture from Ghent University, she worked in top design firms in Amsterdam before moving to China in 2005, where she co-founded AIM ARCHITECTURE with her partner, Vincent de Graaf, focusing on spaces that foster social change and human connection.
Wendy created a vibrant, human-centred studio surrounded by young, international designers united by a goal to transform urban environments. Her design influences come from street life in China, craftsmanship, and sensory experiences such as the smell of leather, leading her to create impactful spaces. Over the past two decades, Wendy has led projects spanning architecture and interior design, earning numerous accolades, including MIPIM, Architizer, WAN, WAF, Wallpaper*, and ELLE Deco Awards. Wendy also received the accolade of Luminary at the 2023 INDE.Awards.
