Adam Raphael Markowitz is an architect as well as furniture & lighting designer/maker based in Melbourne, Australia. He has attended graduate schools of design & craft in Australia, The Netherlands, Denmark and the US. Exposed in those schools to fine craft and traditional joinery alongside contemporary design, he has developed a design philosophy that values the intimate connection between design and fabrication, and the new opportunities found at the intersection of modern digital processes and traditional methods of craftsmanship. Since 2015 his interdisciplinary practice has offered Architectural Services, Design Consultancy, small batch production and bespoke one-off commission work.
His work sits in numerous collections locally and internationally, and he has been the recipient of several awards in both Furniture & Architecture including most recently being last year’s winner of the Inde Awards ‘Object’ category. Markowitz helped establish the ExLab experimental Design Studio at the Melbourne School of Design, The University of Melbourne and teaches Design at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Maine, USA.
