Nestled in Changi’s quiet business district, The Reserve transformed an old six-storey electronic warehouse into a world-class vault for precious commodities. The 32-metre-high, 16700-square-metre building, originally designed to support heavy loads and large spans, proved remarkably adaptable for its new purpose, allowing both function and presence to coexist seamlessly.
The project responds to the evolving character of the Changi Business District. Once a thriving hub for logistics and commerce, the area has experienced decline in recent years as remote work reshaped urban life. Many industrial buildings were left underused, raising questions about how to reinvigorate ageing infrastructure in dense urban settings.
Through adaptive reuse, The Reserve transforms a disused warehouse into a landmark of both security and imagination. Its onyx glass façade, a delicate layering of thinned onyx between glass, glows softly with filtered daylight, shifting in tone as the sun moves. Poetic and performative, it embodies the convergence of tradition and innovation, modulates light, enhances comfort and gives the vault a quiet yet commanding character. By night, subtle internal illumination brings the façade to life, casting a warm, ethereal glow that celebrates the building’s materiality, a glowing beacon and a hint at what lies within.
