Harry the Hirer runs some of Australia’s biggest events inlcuding the Australian Open and Grand Prix, so for its new headquarters, the space had to match that energy. The result is a four-level workplace inside a 100-year-old cotton mill in Melbourne, transformed from a neglected warehouse into a dynamic, technology-driven hub.

The biggest design initative was to cut an opening through all four floors, connecting the levels visually and physically with staircases, bridges and a striking blue lift. This keeps the team feeling connected across the building – the same way they worked when everyone shared a single floor.

The space borrows directly from the world of events: LED screens can change the atmosphere instantly, lighting follows unexpected patterns and polished stone floors reflect animated projections. The building can shift its mood entirely, practical one moment, spectacular the next.

At the same time, the project carefully honours the building’s past. Original timber beams were uncovered, old hardwood floors were restored and even the concrete footings from century-old industrial machinery were kept as a nod to history.

The outcome is a workplace that feels both rooted in its heritage and completely alive to the fast-moving world that its occupants operate.
