BresicWhitney LNS

THOSE Architects
Australia

BresicWhitney LNS is set within the historic Mosman ANZAC Memorial Hall. Within this heritage context the project is executed with a light, if not unexpected touch. The original architectural features of note were identified, retained and restored to ground the new work within the context of the 100-year-old building. An intricate stainless steel ribbon acts as the primary means for organising the architectural parti, subtly distinguishing between public and private zones.

At 1.5-metres in height and with a curvaceous polished aesthetic, this architectural wayfinding device becomes occupiable with seating and tables built into its envelope, anchoring it within the space and further enhancing the programme. Workstations, also in stainless steel, are arranged in a sweeping pattern along the south facing windows overlooking the neighbourhood in a fashion that affords equitable access to tree top vistas and natural light. The use of stainless steel enabled an impossibly thin profile to be achieved whilst providing a surface that bounces light deep into the plan. A sky blue chute terminating in a glass pane has also been introduced to funnel additional daylight into the space. Accents of saturated blue and natural clay overlay the polished stainless steel eliciting visual delight.
