‘Goodhope’ celebrates the artistic link between architecture and film.

Leaning on principles from film, the project sought to mimic the rich, desaturated qualities of See Saw Films and there is a cinematic quality to the resulting built form. A consideration of human scale led to the selection of handmade bricks which act as a unifying ribbon weaving its way through the building, anchoring the user.

The building is conceived as a series of ‘moments’ that capture the specific purpose of each space, whether for focus, inspiration, privacy, or collaboration. The moments are woven together using nuanced material choices and thresholds of detail.

Entry is via See Saw Films, with offices under the restored gabled roof, then through the courtyard to the new addition, where executive offices and open-plan workspace are set out over two levels.

While the buildings’ function discretely and look unrelated from the street, inside the distinction dissolves. They share a spatial logic, a tight material language of off-form concrete, Victorian ash timber work and a white brick skin. The courtyard acts as a light-filled place maker that the new spaces hinge around. Like a well-crafted film, Goodhope is a testament to the craft and good intent of all involved.
