Cotton On Wellness

Greg Natale Design with PTID

At the global headquarters of the Cotton On Group in Geelong, Victoria, wellness is key in the warm, layered space that takes a groundbreaking approach to nurturing staff. With a resort-style design, the building incorporates a series of fitness and wellbeing areas that reflect a holistic approach to work/life balance.

A central feature of the design is the prominent use of timber, stained walnut, that provides a warm, welcoming finish with sculptural wood partitions and detailed panelling on walls and cabinetry. Natural, textural elements continue with cane furniture and rattan lighting, ample indoor planting and a palette of olive, blush and white across travertine flooring. Plaster finishes on spa and bathroom walls provide a soft effect that is in keeping with the space’s ambience.

Sustainably sourced walnut and marble have been treated with eco-friendly finishes, with existing ground slabs and structural steel used, naturally finished and locally produced metals, and integrated LED custom light sources.

A constraint of the site was working within an existing warehouse, a huge space featuring cathedral-like ceilings. To address this, the ceilings were painted a dark olive colour to engender intimacy, with groupings of mid-century furniture added to enhance the resort vibe.T he reuse and sourcing of local materials was a key part of the ‘life cycle’ approach to sustainability.

A standout aspect of the design is its groundbreaking approach to nurturing staff through the facilities. These include personal training, meeting and conference spaces, consulting suites for allied health, areas for pilates, yoga, spin rooms and F45, as well as mindfulness, meditation and chill spaces. The facility also connects to outdoor courts and features a running track through the campus, all in a resort-style space that connects to the larger staff complex.
