At the entry of the EVE Hotel Sydney, Bar Julius exudes charm, its atmosphere shifts with the time of day, allowing for a transitional food and beverage space. Inspired by the Australian artwork, The Lacquer Room by Grace Cossington Smith (1936) and Café Australia by Walter Burley Griffin, its design is referential yet contemporary. By incorporating a mezzanine with bathrooms and storage, positioning a full commercial kitchen beside the central bar, and aligning seating along the windows and entry, the design not only optimises the space’s functionality but also invites sunlight from Baptist Street into its core.
Designed with the familiarity of a traditional bistro aesthetic comprising timber finishes, leather banquettes, marble bar and accents, with moody table lights and textured glass, the light-hearted immersive art installation by Louise Olsen offsets this timelessness with a playful, modern twist.
The warmth of Australian jarrah and ironbark flooring, coupled with timber veneer in a two-toned pattern, accented by Rosso Ceppo and Tiberio marble, brings an inviting richness and energy to the space. This is further defined by a formalised dado and a triple vaulted ceiling. A subtle glow from the backlit barrisol ceiling, made in collaboration with Louise Olsen and Barrisol, complements the natural tones and features an integrated AC supply with acoustic function.
