Exeter House
Australia

Tom Ferguson is an Australian architectural and interiors photographer based in Sydney, whose work spans projects across Australia and internationally. With more than 15-years of experience documenting the built environment, he is known for his refined visual approach to architecture, interiors and design.

Originally trained as an architect, Tom graduated from the University of New South Wales and went on to establish his own architectural practice in the mid-2000s. He worked professionally as an architect for 15 years, during which time he began photographing buildings – initially documenting projects for his employers and later his own designs.

Over time, photography became an increasingly central part of his career, eventually leading him to transition fully into architectural photography. His background in architecture remains a defining influence on his work, informing his sensitivity to space, light, materiality and design intent.

Today, Tom operates at the intersection of architecture and visual storytelling, collaborating with architects, designers, and publications to capture contemporary built environments.

The Project

This photographic series captures Exeter House by Luke Moloney Architecture with a restrained clarity that reflects its ethos of achieving ‘a lot with less’. Set within the Southern Highlands, the images emphasise how the house follows the land’s contours – nestling into the slope, opening to southern bushland views and drawing in controlled northern light.

Through composed framing and carefully timed natural light, the photography reveals a modest yet rigorous architecture: simple gabled forms, economical materials and a central living volume flanked by private spaces. Subtle moments of occupation reinforce the home’s origins as a collaborative, hands-on build shaped by budget, family effort and resourcefulness.

Interiors are rendered with precision and restraint, highlighting material honesty – concrete, timber and white surfaces – while expressing sustainability through light, ventilation, and orientation.

Aligned with Luke Moloney Architecture’s approach, the series is measured and unembellished, demonstrating how careful observation and disciplined composition can elevate a modest project into a compelling architectural narrative.
