The Project
The Sanctum explores the intersection of brutalist geometry and spiritual stillness. The photographic essay of this residential project transcends architectural documentation, capturing the home as a living vessel of light and shadow. The lens focuses on the rhythmic play of curved masonry and raw brickwork, utilising the harsh Indian sun to create high-contrast compositions that define the home’s sanctuary concept. By prioritising the voids and interstitial spaces, the circular oculus, the sweeping corridors and the sunken courtyards, the photography conveys a sense of monastic calm. The series is characterised by a deliberate atmospheric depth. The wide-angle perspectives illustrate the seamless continuity between the interior galleries and the rugged landscape, while tighter, vertical frames highlight the tactile honesty of the materials. The inclusion of subtle human figures provides scale, transforming the monolithic concrete structures into a backdrop for quiet, domestic contemplation. This collection of images successfully captures not just the form of a house but the aura of a home designed for retreat.
