The Project
“”The Worley Dormitory at Yanco Agricultural High School is a new female boarding house which replaces several temporary buildings that were used since the school became co-educational in 1995. The dormitory is more than just a building; it is a home away from home for students, offering a nurturing space that enhances their overall school experience.”” – ARM Architecture
In photographing the Worley Dormitory for ARM Architecture, I wanted to highlight its references to Australian rural and agricultural vernacular: the enormous pitched verandah, the oversized shed-like materials and the striking colour scheme, while also describing the homely atmosphere of its shared interior spaces. Photographed just days before students took up residence, I captured angles under almost every lighting condition imaginable: direct sun, backlight, overcast, pre-dawn and dusk. Every variation offered something new and useful in describing the project.
