The Pavilion Chair is a refined dining chair developed through an ongoing investigation into the structural potential of leather. Combining a hybrid timber and steel frame with a formed leather shell, the project rethinks conventional furniture construction by elevating leather from a surface finish to a primary load-bearing element.
The leather is shaped using a water-forming and vacuum-pressing process developed through sustained studio-based research, allowing it to achieve strength, flexibility and ergonomic responsiveness without the need for additional internal structure. This approach enables a reduction in synthetic materials while supporting durability in high-use environments.
The chair has been realised within culturally significant Australian projects, including Yiaga, designed by Wardle and the premium carriages of The Ghan Railway by Woods Bagot, and demonstrates its capacity to operate across both commercial and domestic contexts.
Manufactured in Australia by a skilled team of makers, the Pavilion Chair sits at the intersection of craft and production, where material research is translated into resolved, enduring design outcomes.
