MASS explores how a familiar household object can carry greater material responsibility without compromising on design resolution. The project centres on a table lamp produced in 100 per cent recycled HDPE, shifting a typically utilitarian polymer into a refined interior product.
The design approach is intentionally reductive: a bold, monolithic form that anchors a surface, paired with an ambient glow that softens the object’s weight. Rather than disguising recycled content, MASS makes it legible through its manufacturing logic. The lamp is constructed from CNC-cut HDPE sheets, stacked and mechanically fixed to create a stratified body. The assembly is then sanded back to a smooth, unified finish, balancing material honesty with a refined tactile outcome. Subtle variation in tone and pattern reflects the reclaimed plastics that make up each batch; where needed, offcuts can be sorted into colour families and palettes curated for bespoke applications.
With a standard E27 LED globe and long-life intent, MASS is designed to be maintained and kept – suited to residential or hospitality settings.
