The idea of Beanless was to create the ‘softest’ piece of furniture from steel weldmesh. The form of a beanbag came to mind, so a 3D CAD model of a shape that sufficeI was created. The process included radially-slicing this CAD form and CNC cutting the slices from particleboard that were assembled to create a jig. Steel weldmesh was then wrapped around the jig using roofing screws and a hammer. Once the sections were formed, the jig was removed and the sections welded together, to create a strong monocoque form. The piece was then sandblasted and flocked deep burgundy red to maximise its sensory ‘softness’.
