Ark Cabinet

The Ark Cabinet (2025) is a bespoke sculptural credenza designed by Adam Goodrum and Arthur Seigneur as a companion piece to Natalia Nesterova’s monumental painting Noah’s Ark (2013) for a private home. Conceived to sit alongside the artwork, the cabinet translates the painting’s tonal landscape into a contemporary work of collectible design through material, colour and geometry.

The cabinet is entirely clad in hand-laid rye straw marquetry, composed of more than 20,000 custom-dyed straw ribbons ranging from pale blonde to deep umber tones. Applied across every internal and external surface, the marquetry forms a shimmering, faceted skin that responds subtly to light.

The façade is articulated through a tessellated series of convex and concave sphericon forms, creating a rhythmic sculptural presence that alludes to pairing and duality. Behind this calm exterior, three pleated doors unfold in an origami-like gesture enabled by precision-machined brass hinges.

Inside, carved shelves and curved recesses continue the marquetry landscape, forming a richly detailed interior designed to hold glassware and serving objects. The Ark Cabinet ultimately balances sculpture and function, operating as both a serving credenza and a companion artwork.
