The House of Memories in Valsad, designed by Studio Lagom, merges modernity with tradition on a 165’ x 55’ plot. Replacing a 40-year-old residence, the new home addresses issues of accessibility and maintenance while celebrating the family’s heritage.
Built with a load-bearing structure of exposed brick, the design highlights a central well and combines old elements with new ones, including salvaged wood and antique furniture. The residence features a workspace with a concrete-bordered facade and a carved wooden door leading to a lush courtyard with a lotus pond.
Interior spaces include a living room, temple, dining area, kitchen, and bedrooms, with an emphasis on indoor-outdoor flow. The home incorporates sustainability with solar energy and rainwater harvesting. A notable feature is the ‘dancing brick wall,’ which balances privacy with ventilation. The House of Memories stands as a functional, elegant blend of past and present.
