A limited yet raw palette of materials is used, to simultaneously evoke the sentiment of the clients’ heritage, but also referencing local mid-century architecture. These are expressed using sawn travertine flooring, exposed internal brickwork and a singular antique oak veneer throughout. Key areas such as the kitchen, library and main bedroom are all flooded in the timber panelling creating moments of intensity not imaginable from the private façade.

This limited palette draws focus towards the detailing of core materials and enables them to be used throughout yet create a hierarchy to where they’re used. Internally the spaces are designed to make use of efficient movement and to prioritise generous room sizes while minimising the overall building footprint.

Custom fittings and one-off furniture items are peppered throughout the home. A suite of lighting fixtures from the black steel wall sconces and dramatically oversized hard plastered bird ring light in the living room, combine to create a more layered, eclectic, and relaxed feel to the furniture curation.

This project isn’t one of grand gestures or expensive materials, but more of a study of what controlled spaces and the strength of a limited yet considered grouping of materials and core details can achieve.
