The Hymba Yumba Independent School Performance Hall and Arts Building forms the cultural and creative heart of the campus, completing a key stage in the school’s long-term masterplan developed with Deicke Richards. The project brings together specialist arts learning environments and a multi-purpose performance hall, creating a space where creativity, culture, and community gathering are equally supported.

Located on a constrained bushland site shaped by flood overlays and environmental protections, the building adopts a compact vertical form that minimises site impact while strengthening connections to Country. The Performance Hall is oriented toward surrounding bushland and Opossum Creek and opens through large operable doors, allowing the space to function as a verandah-like gathering place for assemblies, cultural events, and community celebrations.

Specialist studios for music, dance, multimedia production, and visual arts sit alongside gallery spaces and flexible learning areas that support creative learning and cultural knowledge sharing. Integrated First Nations artwork and contributions from students embed cultural storytelling directly within the architecture.

The project provides Hymba Yumba with its first space capable of bringing the entire school community together, reinforcing the school’s identity as a centre of excellence for First Nations education and cultural leadership.
