Banum Warrik Primary School is more than just a place of learning, it stands at the heart of a growing community, designed to be a vibrant hub where students, families and educators come together.
Named from the Woi-wurrung words for grassy plains, the school celebrates Traditional Owners through Indigenous animal themes integrated into wayfinding and learning spaces, fostering a deep connection to place. The design balances functionality and inclusivity, with flexible classrooms, collaborative spaces and equitable access to resources that support student growth. Shared facilities, including a sports field and indoor multi-use court, extend the school’s value to the broader community.
A robust material palette of brick, metal-clad walls and large single-span roofs reflects the local character, while natural timber finishes create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Outdoor learning areas and landscaped play spaces encourage creativity and connection with nature.
Sustainability is embedded through passive strategies such as solar orientation, natural ventilation and high-performance glazing, reducing operational costs and supporting environmental stewardship. Thoughtfully designed for adaptability and long-term resilience, Banum Warrik Primary School will continue to enrich students and the wider community for generations to come.
