Lane Cove House

Lachlan Seegers Architect
Australia

Located in Lane Cove, Sydney, this home draws on the site’s layered history and surrounding landscape to create a living environment that feels both grounded and connected to nature. The suburb’s evolution from Indigenous land to agricultural grants and later harbour-based industry informs the architectural response.

A contemporary reinterpretation of the sawtooth roof, inspired by nearby former factory buildings, defines the project. Historically used to optimise daylight and ventilation, the roof form is reimagined here to bring abundant natural light into every room while framing dramatic views of the sky, creating a dynamic interior experience, allowing occupants to remain connected to the shifting qualities of light and the passing seasons.

As a series of carefully crafted spaces immersed within the garden, it houses generous openings, courtyards and framed views extending living spaces outward and inviting neighbouring tree canopies deep into the home, creating moments for retreat, reflection and everyday living within nature.

A dark green roof and neutral base reference the broader landscape, the canopy of Lane Cove and the soft tones of the harbour beyond. Internally, subtle textures and warm furnishings echo nearby deciduous maples, reinforcing a cohesive palette that ties architecture, landscape and history together.
