Yellamundie Library, part of Liverpool Civic Place, is a new civic and cultural landmark in Liverpool, New South Wales. The library reflects the area’s rich First Nations and multicultural heritage, integrating contemporary architecture with deep respect for Country. The name Yellamundie means ‘storyteller’ in the local Dharug language, embodying its role in preserving and sharing knowledge. The curvilinear building, inspired by the meandering Georges River, creates a seamless flow between the library and its urban surroundings. Its transparent façade promotes a sense of openness and inclusivity, while multi-level zoning provides dynamic spaces for learning, collaboration, and quiet study. A sunken courtyard and extensive green infrastructure contribute to climate resilience, helping to mitigate Western Sydney’s urban heat island effect.

A 6 Star Green Star-rated project, Yellamundie incorporates sustainable design principles such as high-performance facades, rainwater recycling, and endemic planting. It supports a broad range of community programs, from early childhood literacy to digital innovation, and provides critical infrastructure for Liverpool’s diverse population. As a catalyst for urban renewal, Yellamundie Library exemplifies the integration of public architecture, sustainability, and cultural storytelling.
