Atal Sarovar, a transformative initiative within the Rajkot Smart City Masterplan, revitalises a neglected waterbody by integrating water-sensitive urban design (WSUD) principles. Covering a .90-square-metres. catchment area, the project balances ecological restoration with vibrant public spaces. It utilises tertiary-treated water from a nearby Sewage Treatment plant (STP), ensuring year-round water retention while mitigating freshwater dependency.

The design establishes a robust interconnected water network that links Atal Sarovar to adjacent lakes and the nearby Nyari Dam, enhancing flood resilience and ecological continuity. Recreational spaces such as theme parks, organic trails, and non-motorised blue-green networks foster inclusive community engagement. By harmonising hydrological resilience with urban functionality,

Atal Sarovar serves as a model for water-centric urban revitalisation, blending ecology, culture, and smart infrastructure. The lake’s renewal not only mitigates urban flooding but also elevates public well-being, reinforcing Rajkot’s identity as a smart, sustainable city.
