The Rosebud Secondary College – Wellness Centre is a purpose-built facility specifically procured for the task of supporting vulnerable teenagers on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria Australia.
The delivery of this new facility is a testament to the determination of a large group of concerned community representatives wanting to arrest a noticeable decline in the state of mental health of young people in the local community. This worrying trend also affected those at Rosebud Secondary Collage to the point where leadership decided to take decisive action.
Purposeful spaces for mindfulness training, counselling and wellness education were high priority requirements together with a need to provide a dedicated workspace for the wellness staff and other sessional professionals.
The position on the school site needed to be both an efficient connection to the rest of the campus as well as being suitably separate so as to provide a level of privacy for those students needing counselling support. The facility has one large mindfulness space, counselling rooms, amenities and staff workspaces – all surrounding a curated landscaped courtyard.
The facility is simple in form, completely clad in timber and has an elevated boardwalk linking the building to the school campus proper. The resultant new facility has already achieved significant results – benefitting both students and the community at large.
