The redevelopment of the Newman Health Service site was necessary to address the growing demographic needs and to achieve health service reform through an appropriate infrastructure solution. The vision was to create an integrated ‘one-stop-shop’ Ambulatory Care facility to manage healthcare concerns, while maintaining service models of non-clinical support services.
In alignment with the Building Management and Works principles for public architecture, the facility embodies: a sense of place and positive impact; a design that is sensitive, distinctive, and place-specific; a positive relationship with the site and surrounding buildings; an appropriate and uplifting architectural language; the natural beauty of the region; and the history and origins of the community. It was imperative that the building materials underpinned the design goals and remained durable and low maintenance, while being simple to construct and appropriate to climate.
