The Pyrmont Bridge East Amenities Refurbishment reimagines an existing public facility within the high-traffic Darling Harbour precinct through adaptive reuse, heritage sensitivity and a focus on user dignity. Delivered in partnership with Placemaking NSW, the project transforms a compact urban space into an environment that feels spacious, intuitive and welcoming for all.

Rather than rebuilding, the design works with the existing structure, allowing the space to retain its familiar rhythm while reducing disruption and environmental impact. The interior draws from the industrial character and warm patina of the adjacent Pyrmont Bridge, using a terracotta-based palette to create a calm, grounded environment that feels intuitively navigable and connected to place.

The removal of the redundant monorail structure opens the plan, improving circulation and visibility while enhancing safety and spatial clarity. Contemporary accessible amenities and facilities support inclusivity for a broad spectrum of users, from families to night-time precinct visitors.

Sustainability is embedded through choices that enhance long-term wellbeing: durable materials, low-VOC finishes, water-efficient fixtures and improved natural ventilation. These decisions support a healthier indoor environment and operational resilience.

This refurbishment demonstrates how modest, pragmatic interventions can elevate civic infrastructure, delivering dignity, sustainability and everyday wellbeing within a dense urban precinct.
