Next-door Neighbours offers an architectural and urban blueprint that reinvests into the social and ecological infrastructure that defines a community. Situated in the former Corrimal Cokeworks, our project challenges the generic retail/civic core within an uninspired masterplan; instead, it reimagines the brief as a catalyst for a sustainable community-centred neighbourhood.

Addressing density, privatisation, social and ecological sustainability and adaptive reuse, the project is a counter-argument to developer-driven renewal sweeping Sydney’s Illawarra. Our project invents a new mixed-use industrial precinct. Strategic architectural insertions for living, cooperative work, repair and care facilitate modes of public generosity, collectivity, and comfort without economic detriment.
